The Diary
My summary of The Diary from chapter 22 to the end. I post it because, right now, it very much looks as though I never finish the story. I hate to abandon it, but, well, muse is bored. But since I hate abandoned stories where you never find out how they end - or would have ended - I post this for everybody who feels the same. And the end of The Diary is definite: it was one of the first things I had down for the story (bit like Rowling and her epilogue ...). So, here you are.
Chapter 22
Kagome: They travel towards Mount Hakurei, come across the destroyed tomb of the shichinin’tai. Next day, they meet Jakotsu. Kagome wonders if the shichinin’tai were the other protection of Naraku’s that Sesshomaru mentioned. She hasn’t seen Sesshomaru for a week and misses him. She ponders at length about her feelings for Sesshomaru (referring back to the revelation she had at the end of chapter 20).
Chapter 23
Sesshomaru hunts shichinin’tai. He meets Koga in taking one of them down. Next, he comes across Kagure. She tells him more about the shichinin’tai and that Kohaku is “responsible” for them. He decides to find the boy. He follows Kohaku’s scent, and scents poison and Kagome. He rushes to aid and comes in time to save Kagome from Mukotsu. Inu arrives, both are furious at each other. They bring the humans to safety. Renkotsu (??) makes an appearance, Sess goes and takes care of him (ie kills him). Back to Inu, the humans are still unconscious. Inu furious about his helplessness, fears his friends will die. Tensaiga makes its presence known. Then Myoga arrives and sucks the poison out of everybody’s veins. The humans wake up. Sess, overcome with emotions, leaves, but Kagome follows. Short talk and kiss.
Chapter 24
Kagome shortly in her diary, because she is still weak, about Mukotsu and then waking up with Sess there. How he left and she followed him.
Chapter 25
Kagome: She wonders where Sesshomaru is. She hasn’t seen him for days. They had another encounter with Jakotsu and another of the shichinin’tai. They meet Koga. But no Sesshomaru.
Inu Yasha is really furious. Kagome is worried for him. She misses him, and she wants to see him again to tell him she loves him.
Chapter 26
Sesshomaru finds a demonic healer that is strong enough to restore his arm to him. When healed he sets out to find Kagome. They meet – again alone – and first Kagome is happy. Does the dream come true at last?? Then Kagome gets to know the circumstances of his healing and she accuses him of being a cold-blooded killer. Sesshomaru is deeply hurt; by her words, by her actions, by her not understanding what it means to him to be complete again. He reacts the only way he knows to defend himself: the cold-hearted demon. Kagome flees and he’s ready to kill.
Chapter 27
Kagome desperate – she was so happy, now she is so miserable! Raves on.
Excerpts from Kagome’s diary:
1. She’s furious and feels betrayed. “How could he do this? How can he be so cold?”
2. She’s angry. “That’s just like him!”
3. She’s sorry and a bit disappointed. “I shouldn’t have yelled at him.”
4. Myoga reports about Sesshomaru’s healing and Kagome gets to know the real circumstances. Demonic healers are very rare because it’s not a demon’s nature to heal. So they are few, and they live hidden. Every time they heal, they grow weaker and weaker until they die. It is impossible to force a demonic healer to use their powers. They either want to heal, and then they give everything. Or they don’t, and then they give nothing. Kagome is shocked at hearing that. She feels very sorry and bad for the way she treated Sesshomaru.
5. She realises she was wrong and feels guilty. She feels terrible, misses Sesshomaru, wants to see him again to apologise.
6. She’s love-sick and really misses Sesshomaru badly.
7. She’s even more lovesick, because Sesshomaru is still furious. They meet because Sesshomaru wants to tell their group he killed Jakotsu. He totally ignores Kagome, and she’s hurt. She’s desperate and hurt, but she knows it was her own mistake.
Chapter 28
Sesshomaru: He’s hurt, too, and angry with her; he’s beyond furious and kills Shichinin tai members quite brutally with his poison claws. Episode where Rin nearly gets killed by Jakotsu and the other guy.
Finally he realises he loves her like his father loved Inu Yasha’s mother.
He meets Kagura. Kohaku’s with her and she carries a baby. Feels bad aura of the baby and demands Kagura to give it to her. Kagura is under the baby’s influence and believes he’s innocent. They fight and Sesshomaru wins. Kagura and Kohaku flee back to their master. Sesshomaru kills the baby brutally.
Then he decides to follow Kagura and Kohaku. Passes a barrier and behind it he smells Kagome in danger. Rushes to her help, and the scene unfolds:
Kohaku is dead and Sango is holding him in her arms, crying. Miroku protects them. Koga is lying on the ground, his legs bloody and torn. Naraku has the jewel, Inu Yasha has lost Tessaiga and Naraku sends hundreds of demons to kill Kagome. Inu Yasha won’t get Tessaiga in time. Sesshomaru jumps…
Chapter 29: The Power of Love
Kagome’s POV (but not diary): descriptions what leads to the point Sesshomaru appears. Kagome is scared and waits for her death, but suddenly he’s there. He’s holding Tessaiga and standing in front of her. He transforms the sword and then kills the demons quite spectacularly – she can see the power of the wind-scar. Then he leaps and kills Naraku with the Bakur-thingy. Again she can see the enormous powers.
He simply drops the sword and turns to leave. She croaks his name and he stops to look at her. She’s crying and staring at him. Slowly the full impact of the meaning of what she’s just seen sinks in: he has used Tessaiga and was neither repelled by the blade nor burned. That can mean only one thing: he loves her.
She sinks to her knees, crying hard, sobbing his name. He kneels down in front of her, brushing her tears away. She stares into his eyes and suddenly throws herself against his chest, sobbing that she’s sorry. “I shouldn’t have said that! I was wrong!”
“No, you were right.”
“No!” she draws back and looks at him. “I wasn’t! I judged you before I knew everything. That was wrong. I was wrong. Oh, I’m so sorry, so sorry! Please forgive me, please!”
“You ask for my forgiveness?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I need it.”
“You have it.”
“Thank you.”
“But still, you were right. It was selfish.”
“Yes, maybe, but that’s you. You’re arrogant, egoistical, cold, ruthless (etc) – but don’t you ever dare to change one bit of it!” Silence. “Because I love you just the way you are.”
He stares at her. He starts shaking. He touches her face, caresses her cheeks, and then he kisses her passionately. He holds her close, his face burrowed in her hair, and he whispers in her ear: “I love you, too, dearest.”
And finally Kagome is where she belongs. She’s home. Her dreams have come true. [Awww…]
Epilogue
They’re not allowed to stay long on cloud number nine. Koga gets angry, Inu Yasha is furious, Miroku intervenes and reminds Kagome of her duty: the jewel. She takes it and purifies it. Then notices the dead Kohaku and asks Sesshomaru to revive him. He does it.
Then everybody sits down to talk. Questions are answered, Jaken and Rin show up, Kagura gets her heart back and there’s a lot of talk.
Suddenly they become aware that Sesshomaru and Kagome are missing. Shippo and Rin exchange glances and Miroku grins…
