Long-term effects of reading too much slash
Yes, there are effects, as I found out the other day. One of them is that reading het - be it fanfiction or traditional romance fiction - does nothing for me.
In fact, rather the opposite: some time ago I re-read a novel by one of my favourite romance writers, and when I got to the scene where the Hero undressed the Heroine and "touched her soft breast" my first reaction wasn't, "oh, yum" but "ew, yuck". (It's clear that for all my bi-curiosity I'm quite boringly hetero.)
The other effect is that I can find sub-text where there isn't any. Honestly. I'm reading The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe for uni and ( this bit made the slasher-girl inside of my perk up. )
