a bit of rambling and a rec

Wrote 1,550 words today for Watching Him, and I'm still far from finished. Also, I'm only about half-way through the smut. It has now become a certainty: I am genetically (or whatever-ally) incapable of writing short smut. My principle in writing is definitely 'Why write something short if it can be long and blow-by-blow, yes, pun intended?'

I've also been tempted by [info]softly_sweetly to sign up for [info]hp_sas and spent about an hour fiddling with my sign up form. I thought about doing this exchange before, but being tempted was nice. Plus, there'll be almost four months to write the story, so I couldn't really say no. And they give me a maximum wordcount, which is very nice, because see above for newly discovered principle.

On an entirely different note, let me rec you a story. It's original, slash, and it's got the most wonderfully pervy unicorns you can imagine:

Swordwick by [info]maderr: Section One and Section Two

there be rec )

And now I'll go and try to convince myself some more that I really can't spend more money on books this month, and that waiting one more week won't kill me.

Slowly recovering the Muse

I'm getting back to writing. Yay! Wrote 2,700 words of PWP today that wanted to be more than PWP. It's amazing how I can write smut without much trouble when everything else refuses to be written, but have huge trouble when I write smut for a story with some plot in it.

Anyway, Maddox and Bill had fun today. Will post fic in a couple of days, once I've had the time to go through it again.

And now, because I'm still feeling good, I'll go back to Watching Him. That's an older story, and for the longest time I've only had the beginning of it. About one page, perfectly in my head, and I even got it onto a page. But after that, nothing. The other day, though, I had an idea for the rest, and managed to write four pages on Thursday (though I was dead afterwards). Next: the smut. But, as I said, I'm feeling good, and after Maddox and Bill, I might even manage Stuart and Sebastian. :)

*off to write more smut*

Writing Woes

It's interesting but rather disturbing: I can't write. At least, nothing that is longer than, oh, 500 words. I started writing the long-time overdue review for [info]maderr's Prisoner, and although it's perfect in my head, it won't come out. The sentences are not right and just nothing fits.

It's the same with anything remotely fictional. I want to write - hell, I've been putting off my three short stories since December! - but it doesn't work. I stare at the screen, in my head the characters run around and do what they are supposed to do, but my brain is busy with staring at the screen.

I think the thesis broke me.

And it's not as if Muse would shut up. Nope. She's been very busy last week, brought me two new bunnies. I really wish she would stop doing that!

One isn't even a bunny but more like one scene and I have no idea what to do with it! )

After that scene and its participants vanished, I tried for something else. Some Cinderella-like story, perhaps? And voilà, there are Adina and Beliza, beautiful and not-so-nice sisters. There is Coryn, average looking younger brother whose only saving grace in Society is that he can read people and Society has learnt to not anger him, or he accidentally on purpose spills their secrets. Then, there is Prince Merrick, returned from his three-year-journey through the empire on which his father the emperor has sent him. But Merrick hasn't returned alone. There is a foreign mage with him, and it takes Coryn only one glance to know that they are lovers.

Not much better, that one. Can somebody please tell me why lately almost all of stories want to be threesomes? That mage totally wasn't planned, but once Merrick showed up, there he was. Now I have to somehow get Coryn together with these guys. But Coryn is shy, and he can't look at the prince and his mage because he sees things he really shouldn't see and they embarrass him. There's one talk to the mage but once that's over ... what?

And of course Muse has wandered off and wants me to write Breaking Heart is Hard to Do.

Which doesn't work, because brain is busy staring at screen.

I think Someone - or Something - is laughing at me.

Recommendations!

For two original slash stories. They were recommendet to me, and I simply adored them, so I had to pass the rec on.

Numero Uno:

Shadow of the Templar by M. Chandler

Three out of four books published on the website. The fourth is scheduled for January 2009. But the third doesn't leave you on a cliffy - or not much of one, it's bearable - so you can start reading. ^-^

Summary: Simon Drake is an up-and-coming young FBI agent. Jeremy Archer is the world's best thief. You do the maths.

Rating: none given, I'd say R, mostly for language.

Why everyone has to read it? Well... )

Highestly (is that a word?) recommendet!!

Numero Due:

The Slave Breakers by [info]maculategiraffe

Two stories finished, the third and last in progress. I think.

Summary: Bran is a "pleasure slave" in a society where impoverished peasants are legally permitted to sell their children into slavery starting at age 15. When he tries to run away one too many times, his master sells him to the fearsome married couple known as "the slave breakers."

Rating: a loud and clear NC17.

Why everyone has to read it? Well... )

Go read! Now!

Bookmarks: Original Slash Fiction

Again with the compulsive list-making. This time, one of the original slash fics that I've read online and really liked. Really just my way of bookmarking them. Complete if not marked otherwise.

Be warned: they are NC17 and definitely not suitable for children!
